About the Founder

Cala Strings is led by Grammy and Emmy winning violinist Alex Weill — founder and lead violinist of the collective. As a touring and recording artist, she has received 4 Grammy Certificates — a Grammy win for “How Deep is Your Love” with PJ Morton ft. Yebba, 2 Grammy nominations with PJ Morton for his album “Gumbo Unplugged,” and a Grammy nomination for her performance with John Legend in “Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert,” which won 5 Emmys and 13 nominations. She is an award winning violin soloist for major feature films, including Golden Globe winning “The Farewell” starring Awkwafina, “The Novice” and “Chinese New Year - Nian,” both winners of the Tribeca Film Festival. A highly sought after violinist in the industry, she was trained at The Juilliard School, The Yale School of Music, and Vanderbilt University.
